About Michael Johnson:
Michael has been a Pilates enthusiast since 1983 – hooked from an early age and has never stopped learning. Michael is the owner of Matfit “how to be fit on/off the Mat” based in New York City.
What makes Michael unique? He has been teaching Pilates since 1995, with a mobility focused approach. Each class, private, seminar and workshop are rooted in history of Classical Pilates with modern functional solutions that cross pollinate all disciplines.
In addition, Michael Johnson owns Matfit-Lab (assess mobilize heal) which is a workshop that launched in 2023 for exercise and Pilates enthusiasts to learn about motor control aka Joseph Pilates “ Contrology “.

What is the 3-day workshop about:
During the 3-day workshop, participants will be guided through essential mobility tools originally left to us by Joseph Pilates. We will explore the use of the Pilates eye chart and understand its importance in evaluating posture and gait with clear, direct instructions. Each participant will also learn how to mobilize and assess joint function, evaluate functional ranges, and apply these insights effectively to the Pilates equipment.
Together, we will study Joseph Pilates’ 10-point fitness test and discover how it can be practiced at any age. By meeting the mobile requirements of the Pilates system each time you work on the equipment, you will optimize your body, enhance your practice, and gain a deeper appreciation for the full potential of the Pilates method.

Below are some daily highlights of the workshop. Please note that they may slightly change depending on the purpose and the needs that emerge from the lab, workouts, classes and the whole practice of the workshop.

Day 1: Bring the Pilates Eyechart into your Mat practice. What is Contrology and what are the basics of mobility (asses feet, hands, knees, elbows).

Day 2: Daily warm up shoulders, hips, spine, head. Learn Joe Pilates 10 point fitness test at any age!

Day 3: Applying mobility techniques to Pilates mat class and applying them to all Pilates equipment for progressive loading.

Cost of workshop and privates:
• Early bird for the 3-day workshop: 1.200 euros

• Private classes:
One hour private with Michael, pay directly to him before your private:
150 euros or 175 US dollars.
Regarding privates, first books, first served. Since Michael is in very high demand, he will only be available for a limited number of private lessons at the venue place. Please make sure to book your private class as soon as possible;
Privates will be given on Thursday 22nd of January and only few on Friday & Saturday before the workshop.

Note: For people who will be registered at the workshop, there are no extra fees to observe private classes.

• Dinner: For those who wish to eat and hang out with us and Michael, we’ll have dinner together, Saturday night at 20:00 close to the studio. Dinner is not included in the cost of the workshop.
